The Planning Division is responsible for the development and administration of programs to guide the physical development of Los Altos. The City's General Plan, Neighborhood Specific Plans, Design Guidelines, and the City's Zoning Ordinance are utilized to guide policy.

The Planning Division manages design and environmental review of development proposals and general public information services. Planning staff also works with Code Enforcement when necessary to document and resolve Zoning and Building Code violations.

Planning Division provides staff support to the Zoning Administrator, the Planning Commission, the Historical Commission, and the City Council, providing analysis and recommendations on development applications.

Applications

Planning Applications should be submitted through the electronic application submittal process.   

No physical submittals will be accepted by the Planning Division.  Be aware that the Planning Division will not consider an application Deemed Submitted until all of the following materials are submitted and accepted: A signed General Application Form; Application Checklist; and Application Fees paid. 

Planning Records Online

The public may obtain the status of planning applications, pay outstanding fees, and submit planning applications by using eTRAKiT

Planning Division Public Inquiry/Counter Hours

If you have general questions about planning or zoning, you can speak with a planner by phone, email, or schedule a virtual counter appointment Monday through Friday. We are not offering drop-in, in-person, or counter services at this time. If you have questions about an existing planning application, please contact the assigned project planner directly.
