City of Los Altos Legislative History

books on a shelf

The City of Los Altos Legislative History can be gathered from three different types of documents:

  • Council Minutes
  • Ordinances
  • Resolutions

These documents chronicle the history of Council actions from the City's incorporation in 1952.

Council Meetings

Council Minutes provide a summary of Council actions for each public meeting in which the Council considers and makes decisions on items brought before them.

Ordinances

Ordinances are adopted by the City Council and constitute the laws of the City. Ordinances become part of the Los Altos Municipal Code after adoption.

Resolutions

Resolutions are adopted by the City Council. Certain actions by Council must be taken by Resolutions, such as the adoption of the City's Financial Plan and acceptance of Public Works projects. Resolutions do not become part of the Los Altos Municipal Code unless referred to in an Ordinance.
