South Sewer Main Replacement (Grant Road)

The 2005 Sewer Master Plan identified approximately 8,400 linear feet of sewer pipe in need of upsizing. During the initial construction of this project in 2012, a portion of work was deferred to a future phase due to several utility conflicts. This project completes replacement of the pipe sections identified in the 2005 Sewer Master Plan. This project also includes sewer main replacement on Fremont Avenue from Truman Avenue to Fallen Leaf Lane, however, work on Fremont Avenue will be completed in a future fiscal year.

Construction is currently anticipated to begin on Monday, July 21, 2014 on Grant Road between Portland Avenue and Miravalle Avenue. Contractors will set-up the above ground bypass pumping system on Grant Road from Miravalle Avenue to Portland Avenue. In order to reduce commute traffic impacts, work hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In order to access the sewer mains in need of replacement, contractors will be using excavating equipment for small sections of open-cut trenching. Once one area is complete, contractors will place steel plates over the open trench and move onto the next section until all work is complete. Street restoration work will commence once work is completed, inspected and approved by the City.

Traffic Impact

Note that during work hours, left turning movements to and from the side streets and driveways will be prohibited in the work area. Detour signs will be installed for accessing the side streets. Traffic will be able to circulate on the northbound and southbound directions during construction since the work area will be located in the center of the street. However, vehicles will need to share the road with bicycles. Drivers will be able to drive through the work area and over steel plates after 3:00 p.m. daily.
