The City of Los Altos has retained a construction contractor, Sposeto Engineering, Inc., for performing crosswalk and intersection improvement projects at five locations listed below. The intent of these crosswalk improvements is to provide ADA compliant ramps, high visibility crosswalk markings, and various enhancements along school routes:

  • Los Altos Avenue/West Portola Avenue Crosswalk Improvements (TS-01042) – Improvements at this location consist ADA ramps, flashing stop signs and high visibility crosswalk markings.
  • Covington Road at Riverside Avenue Pedestrian Improvements (TS-01045) – Improvements at this location include reducing crossing distance for pedestrians across Riverside Avenue either by adding a median refuge area or striping enhancements to reduce crossing distance.
  • Springer Road/Fremont Avenue Pedestrian Improvements (TS-01046) – Improvements at this location include minor intersection reconfiguration to improve connection to the Berry Avenue path.
  • Grant Road/Morton Avenue Pedestrian Improvements (TS-01047) – Improvements at this location include ADA ramps and high visibility crosswalk markings.
  • Crosswalk Improvements at St. Joseph Avenue and Deodara Drive (TS-01054) – Improvements at this location include ADA ramps and high visibility crosswalk markings and RRFBs.
Status Updates

Please see below for the latest project schedule.

The City’s contractor anticipates to continue concrete island construction at Springer Road and Fremont Avenue, Covington Road and Riverside Drive, and continue asphalt work at St. Joseph Avenue and Deodara Drive thereafter.

Barricades with Temporary “NO PARKING” signs will be posted at least 48-hours in advance when it is necessary to have the parking cleared of vehicles to perform curb ramp improvements.  Two-way traffic flow will be maintained throughout the project; however, drivers should expect some delays during work hours, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Friday.

Remaining construction, electrical work, pavement striping, and project wrap-up to be completed in March 2019.  Project has been delayed due to inclement weather conditions and unforeseen conditions with utility conflicts.  Questions about this project can be directed to the Engineering Division at (650) 947-2780.

All construction was completed April 2019, and accepted by City Council on July 2019.
