Los Altos Wins Esteemed Award for Downtown Vision

Los Altos, Calif. – July 10, 2020 – The City was presented with an Award of Merit from the American Planning Association (APA) Northern California Section for the Los Altos Downtown Vision.

This award program encourages quality in planning and increases the public’s awareness of the planning profession by recognizing outstanding achievement in the planning field. Los Altos was one of the two cities acknowledged in the small jurisdiction category.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for the City of Los Altos,” said Director of Community Development Jon Biggs, who supervises the Planning Department. “It illustrates a diligent effort by the community, City Council, and City staff, to achieve a guiding document that all can aspire to when planning for the future of Downtown Los Altos.”

The Los Altos Downtown Vision was a collaboration between the Community Development Department and the RRM Design Group. The City Council adopted the Vision Plan on August 28, 2018, after a culmination of many months of work and valuable input from the community. The guiding document drew upon the community’s vision to improve connectivity, enhance economic vitality, and expand housing while maintaining Los Altos' history, values, and roots as a nostalgic village.

The Northern Section of APA California is a membership society of planners in the Northern California area.
