City of Los Altos Names June Du New Director of Finance

Los Altos, Calif. — October 3, 2022 — The city of Los Altos announces the promotion of June Du to Finance Director. Du assumes her new role today, Monday, October 3.

As the Finance Director, Du will oversee citywide financial activities and operations, including budget preparation and supervision of accounting procedures. Her role will also work closely with the Finance Commission as its staff liaison and advisor.

“We are excited to promote June to the position of Finance Director,” said City Manager Gabriel Engeland. “June is well respected in the organization and will continue to improve the Finance Department and the City in her new role. Over the past year, she has been instrumental in creating and implementing an effective budget process, identifying areas where improvements are necessary and then finding solutions, and streamlining our year-end and audit processes.”

Since joining Los Altos in 2021, Du has managed daily finance operations, the year-end closing process, and the fiscal year 2020/2021 annual audit. During her time as Finance Manager, Du helped restructure the Finance Department, implement updated data collection procedures, and execute citywide finance staff training.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Finance Department and rest of the Los Altos team,” Du explained. “I have witnessed the City’s internal culture evolve under the leadership of our City Manager, executive management, and many other staff members. I look forward to continuing to build on that progress for the Los Altos community.”

Du has amassed over a decade of experience in municipal finance, holding executive-level positions in the cities of Rio Vista, Willits, and San Pablo. As Finance Director for the cities of Rio Vista and Willits, she led the creation of the five-year Capital Improvement Program budgets for each city. These cities also won their first Government Finance Officers Association Budget Presentation Award under her lead.

In addition to becoming a certified public accountant, Du has a Master of Business Administration from the California University of Pennsylvania, Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Ohio University, and Bachelor of Science in Economics from Nankai University.

Current Interim Finance Director Suzanne Niederhofer will continue with the City during Du’s transition into her new position. Niederhofer stepped into the interim position when former Finance Director John Furtado left the City in July 2022.
