Los Altos, Calif. — March 1, 2024 — The city of Los Altos has received two awards for excellence in budget presentation for its FY23-24 budget, the first year Los Altos utilized the zero-based budgeting method.

Los Altos, Calif. — February 22, 2024 — After approximately one and a half years of service to the Los Altos police department, Chief of Police Angela Averiett has announced her resignation, effective mid-April. Chief Averiett has accepted the position of interim chief of police for the city of San Leandro and assumes her new responsibilities at the end of April.

Los Altos, Calif. — February 17, 2024 — The city of Los Altos, in partnership with GreenTown Los Altos and the Electric Automobile Association of Silicon Valley, is hosting "Destination Electric”—a Los Altos electric vehicle (EV) showcase—on Saturday, March 23, from 1–⁠4 PM at the Los Altos Community Center. This event is free and open to all community members. 
All lanes of El Camino Real at San Antonio open
Los Altos, Calif. — February 11, 2024 — All lanes of the eastbound section of El Camino Real between San Antonio Road and Sherwood Avenue are scheduled to reopen tomorrow morning, Monday, February 12. Projected reopening time is 6 AM. The bike lane and sidewalk directly in front of 4600 El Camino Real remain closed.
Los Altos, Calif. — February 2, 2024 — On Monday, December 25, 2023, at approximately 4:50 AM, Santa Clara County Fire Department (County Fire) responded to reports of smoke coming from a commercial structure located at 4600 El Camino Real in Los Altos. Following a 3-alarm fire response, consisting of approximately 60 first responders, the fire was declared under control at 1:53 PM.

Los Altos, Calif. — January 29, 2024 — The Los Altos Police Department and the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the deaths of two adults whose bodies were found Tuesday, January 16, at approximately 1:20 PM, during a welfare check.

Los Altos, Calif. — March 1, 2024 — The city of Los Altos has received two awards for excellence in budget presentation for its FY23-24 budget, the first year Los Altos utilized the zero-based budgeting method. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded Los Altos the Award of Distinguished Budget Presentation, and the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) recognized the budget for Excellence in Operating Budget.

This section of El Camino Real has been closed since early Christmas morning due to a three-alarm fire that destroyed the commercial building at 4600 El Camino Real.
