The City has hired a contractor to perform treatment of various sewer mains in our system. The City's Sewer Master Plan Update recommends that an annual sewer root foaming project be performed to chemically remove invasive tree roots within sewer mains. Contractors will be injecting an EPA approved root control agent into the sanitary sewer mains in various locations throughout the City (see map below). The chemical root removal product is designed to specifically kill the root growth present in the sewer lines and to temporarily prevent root re-growth without permanently damaging the vegetation producing the roots. The chemicals currently on the market provide protection from future root growth for two to three years following application.
Residents directly impacted by this scope of work were notified via a mailed letter. The contractor will be placing necessary equipment and barricades to prevent pets, children and unauthorized persons from gaining access to the job site and to prevent accidents or personal injury to the public. If required, temporary "No Parking" signs may be posted; these signs will be posted 48-hours in advance of when it is necessary to have the area cleared of vehicles. All work will be performed Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Questions about this project should be directed to the City's Engineering Division at (650) 947-2780.
