The Intersection Bicycle Loops will improve bicycle detection in bike lanes at eight signalized intersections throughout the City. The following intersections are included in this project:

  • San Antonio Road & Portola Avenue
  • San Antonio Road & Almond Avenue
  • San Antonio Road & W. Edith Avenue/Main Street
  • El Monte Avenue & Covington Road
  • El Monte Avenue & University Avenue
  • El Monte Avenue & Summerhill Avenue
  • El Monte Avenue & Cuesta Drive
  • Fremont Covington & Springer Road

The project scope includes the installation of a new traffic control cabinet, which will update signal phasing and timing. Additionally, an advanced traffic controller and new bike and vehicle video detection will be installed in order to improve transportation movement and traffic operations at these 8 signalized intersections.

Anticipated Community Impact

In order to minimize traffic delays, work hours on this project are limited to 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., however slight delays should be anticipated. During work hours, through traffic will be maintained as much as possible. If necessary, a traffic detour will be provided for any temporary lane closures.

Questions about this project may be directed to the City of Los Altos Engineering Division at (650) 947-2780.
