Advanced Traffic Management Study
Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is a concept developed beginning in the late 1990s which improves transportation safety and mobility and enhances productivity through the integration of advanced communications technologies into the transportation infrastructure and in vehicles. ITS encompasses a broad range of wireless and wire-line, communications-based information and electronics technologies. These electronic technologies include advanced traffic controllers, vehicle/bicycle video detection and monitoring and central traffic management system software. The combination of these elements enhances the City’s traffic management capabilities and allows for improved signal coordination between neighboring agencies.
