A residential community in the heart of Silicon Valley, Los Altos is the boyhood home of Steve Jobs, the birthplace of Apple Computer Inc. and home to many of the region’s tech industry leaders. The city showcases art from around the world in its downtown streets and parks and is currently looking to display new works representing a variety of media, including sculpture, mosaics, electronic and interactive art, and other forms of visual expression. Special consideration is given to art that reflects the city’s agricultural past and/or the community’s current ties to developments in technology, though this is not a requirement.
Artists whose works are selected receive a $1,000 stipend to help defray costs. Both the artists and their works will be promoted through local newspapers, on the city’s website, and in a city-wide Arts Tour brochure. Selected art will be on loan for two years, and at the artist’s discretion, may be made available for sale at the expiration of that period. Over the life of the Los Altos Public Art program, multiple works have been purchased either by individual collectors or by the City of Los Altos. The current installation “Doors” was procured for the City by a private/public partnership earlier this year.
Submission Deadline extended to January 15, 2016.
