The City of Los Altos is currently working on an update to the Civic Center Master Plan, which was previously approved by the City Council in 2009. The 2009 approved plan included demolition and construction of a new Police Station, a new City Hall and a new Community Center. Following an independent survey that was conducted in April 2012, it was determined there was not sufficient community support to pass a bond measure large enough to cover the anticipated cost of the approved plan.
In early 2013, the City Council directed staff to revisit the Civic Center Master Plan with a focus on redeveloping the facility in most critical need of attention - the Community Center. Following City Council’s decision that the new ‘Los Altos Community Center’ be built in the general area of the current Community Center, several public meetings were held to gather input on desired programming, facilities and site planning.
The project consultant, Anderson Brulé Architects, is currently utilizing the wide breadth of data collected during the various outreach meetings and will present an updated Civic Center Master Plan to the City Council in early 2015.
