ANNUAL STREET STRIPING DESCRIPTION: Each year, it is necessary to refresh the roadway striping and markers throughout the City. Visibility of pavement markings is important to preventing traffic accidents. This project provides for striping approximately 15% of the City streets with thermoplastic pavement striping each year. Thermoplastic lasts for approximately seven to eight years before it needs to be refreshed. Therefore, this project allows the City to complete all of the striping in the City on an eight year basis in accordance and maintain the striping in an acceptable condition. This work is being deferred this fiscal year as a result of economic conditions and budget constraints. COST SUMMARY: Design and Construction $ 50,000 POTENTIAL FUNDING SOURCES: Captial Projects Fund $ 50,000 IMPACT ON ANNUAL MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION COSTS: None ALTERNATIVES: Provide a striping program with paint instead of thermoplastic. Paint lasts only two years, and it costs about $95,000 per year to stripe the entire City. An additional $30,000 per year will be needed to remove worn thermoplastic for two years if this alternative is chosen.
