Caltrans Interstate 280 Rehabilitation Project

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin a rehabilitation project on Interstate 280 between Foothill Expressway in Los Altos and Tantau Avenue in Cupertino on Monday, March 2, 2015. The project will involve grinding the entire mainline, replacing damaged concrete slabs, resurfacing shoulders, and upgrading guardrails and overhead panel signs. These activities will require intermittent freeway lane and ramp closures. Work will be conducted primarily during the weekdays; however, some weekend work will occur.

Weekday construction is scheduled Monday through Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day. Weekend work will start Friday evening from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. (Saturday morning) and Saturday evening from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Sunday morning). There will be various freeway and ramp closures during this project; however, Caltrans will always provide at least one open lane in either direction of travel and never close two consecutive ramps. The project is expected to be completed this summer 2015.

Noise will be inevitable during the grind, pave and saw cutting process; however, it will be kept within approved construction noise limits.

This project will provide an improved quality of ride for motorists and extend the service life of the existing road surfaces.

Advance warning changeable message signs and detour signs are in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. For more information on this project please visit the Caltrans website at www.dot.ca.gov.
