Goals for 2011
- Provide BPAC support for Pedestrian Master Plan request for proposal for
development of plan, plan development and completion.
- Ensure Bicycle Transportation Plan is approved by City Council and that
City implements and adopts documented strategies and policies as
appropriate.

- Hosted a Bike to Work Day Energizer Station. (5/12/2011)
- 350 bicyclists passed through the Foothill Expressway at Burke Road intersection
between 6:30 – 8:30 AM.
- Reviewed the January 2011 draft of the Collector Traffic Calming Master Plan during a
joint session with the Traffic Commission. (3/02/2011)
- Hosted a BPAC table at the GreenTown Los Altos Bike Safety Expo. (3/29/2011)
- Reviewed Homestead Road Safety Improvement Project. (4/20/2011)
- Reviewed potential project submissions for a Federal Safe Routes to School application

- Approved a five year list of BPAC accomplishments to be posted on the BPAC website.

- Drafted memo to Mountain View City Council in support of recommendations from MV
BPAC with respect to pedestrian and bicycle traffic around proposed San Antonio Center

- Discussed prioritization of projects in BTP. Never arrived at consensus on rubric for

- Reviewed and commented on proposal for parklets in Los Altos by BrookeRay Smith, Planning Analyst for Passerelle Investment Company. (9/21/2011)
- Wes Brinsfield elected to VTA BPAC as Los Altos representative, replacing Carl
Hagenmaier.
- Recommendation on Class I pathway signage. Approved by TC, forwarded to Council.
Goals for 2010
- Provide support to ensure the Capital Improvement Project Bicycle
Transportation Plan update leads to a successful conclusion.
- Work to ensure the Capital Improvement Project Pedestrian
Master Plan is started during fiscal year 2010/2011.
- Work with city staff on the preparation of a League of
American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Community Application for a
February 2011 submission.
Accomplishments

2010
- Achieved BPAC's three goals for 2010:
- Capital Improvement Project (CIP) Bicycle
Transportation Plan Update on track. Submittal for Council approval
expected February 2011.
- League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly
Community Application submitted January 2011.
- CIP Pedestrian Master Plan budget expected to be funded
at $75,000 and ready for project kickoff.
- Prioritized list of ADA projects updated. Initiated a list
of non-ADA compliant ramps at various city intersections, pathway
connectors.
- Reviewed BPAC website for adherence to current city IT
standards.
- UC Berkeley Institute of Transportation Studies
recommendation for an assessment of pedestrian / bicycle conditions at
Egan Junior High School. Request accepted in October 2010.
- Community Outreach:
- Bike to Work Day, May 13. Staffed two energizer
stations, serving 385 cyclists during 2.5 hours.
- Capital Improvement Project involvement with ped/bike
implications:
- Loyola Corners Streetscape: Comments provided to staff
- Class II and III bicycle signage
- Pedestrian push buttons at intersections, audible
pedestrian signals
- El Monte Avenue bicycle lane

- Identified locations for Class II and III bicycle signage.
- Identified and prioritized intersections for pedestrian
improvements
- Reviewed proposed rubric for prioritizing pedestrian
projects.
- Created a vision statement for Bicycle Transportation Plan
update. Held public hearing to solicit feedback.
- Community Outreach:
- Bike to Work Day, May 14. Staffed two energizer
stations. 463 cyclists passed through the 2 stations in 2.5 hours
- Participated in Covington School Bike Rodeo, August 25.
- Community Picnic, September 13. A number of
residents stopped by BPAC booth. Answered questions and handed
out materials.
- Capital Improvement Project – preliminary design review /
feedback to staff:
- Los Altos Avenue bicycle route design
- 2008 Safe Routes to School various projects design.
- Loyola Corners Streetscape design
- First Street Streetscape design
- Roadway striping as part of slurry seal project: Recommended that Class II bike lanes on Grant Road be
extended from the intersection of Grant/Grant (across from St. Simon’s
School) to Newcastle as part of the upcoming slurry seal
contract. Recommended that edge of roadway lines be installed at
north end of Campbell Avenue.

Accomplishments

2007
- Stevens Creek Trail: Ongoing guidance to Feasibility Study
Task Force.
- Prioritized ADA, pedestrian and bicycle projects for
Service & Financial Plan input.
- Provided input on city projects: a. Garden House elevator,
b. New bicycle rack placements, c. ADA improvements at Springer Rd and
Fremont Ave (Rancho Center entrance), d. Preliminary plans for 45 Main
Street (former Shell gas station location), e. Preliminary plans for
100 First Street (current Post Office).
- Citywide survey of bicycle loop sensors at signalized
intersections to facilitate staff review of CIP cost projections.
- Responded to request for assistance: a. Improvements to
existing crosswalk at Fremont and Dolores, b. Second crosswalk on
Covington Rd. at Golden Way.
- Community outreach: a. Bike to Work Day, 358 cyclists, b.
Hosted an information table at Community Picnic, c. Hosted an
information table at Marymeade Park grand re-opening.
- Maintained BPAC web site, including information on: a.
Stevens Creek Trail Feasibility Study progress updates, b. Suggested
Routes to School maps, school bicycle safety information, c. ADA
project priorities, d. Minutes of BPAC meetings
