The City Clerk serves as the Elections Official for the City of Los Altos and is responsible for the conduction of all City of Los Altos elections. Elections for City Council are held on the Tuesday following the first Monday of November in even years. Council members are elected at-large and serve staggering terms. Special elections may be held at any time.
The nomination period for the 2016 City Council Election will open on Monday, July 18, 2016. At that time, interested individuals may acquire the documents necessary to run for one of three seats on the City Council. Interested individuals should contact the City Clerk’s Office at (650) 947-2720 to receive more information and to schedule an appointment to receive the nomination forms.

The City is awaiting certified election results from the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters. You may view the current status of the recent election count on the Registrar of Voters website.
The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters will conduct a recount, as the margin of victory for the Council candidates is within 0.5 of the total number of ballots cast or 25 votes. The recount will be completed prior to the certification of the election, which will be completed by December 8, 2016. The recount is expected to begin the week of November 28, 2016, and conclude no later than Monday, December 5, 2016. These dates are subject to change.
